Most people call a remodeler with a room in mind and only a rough sense of what the work involves. The first meeting is where that turns into something you can actually make a decision on. Ours is free, it happens at your house, and this is how it runs.
It happens in your house, not in our office
We come to you. The reason goes past convenience. A room tells us things a set of photos will not. Where the light lands in the afternoon. How people actually move through the space, as opposed to how the floor plan says they should. What the floor does underfoot when you cross it.
Standing in the room while you explain what is wrong with it is worth more than any description of the same problem over email. You will point at things. That turns out to matter.

What we are listening for
We listen to you and what your ideal vision is for the space. That sounds like a soft opening step. It is the part that decides everything downstream, because a remodel goes wrong most often when the builder solved a different problem than the one the homeowner actually had.
So the conversation tends to circle three things. What is not working now. What you want instead. And which of those wants you would defend if the project forced a choice between them.
That last one is the useful question and almost nobody arrives having answered it. It is fine to answer it out loud for the first time while we are standing there.
What to have ready
Nothing formal. A few things do make the visit go further:
- The room as it normally is. There is no need to tidy for us.
- Any drawings, plans or images you have collected, including the ones you have gone off. Knowing what you rejected is as useful as knowing what you liked.
- A rough sense of your must-haves as distinct from your nice-to-haves.
- Whoever else is deciding. A second visit to repeat everything for a partner who was at work is a slow way to start.
What you get afterward
A detailed estimate that does not change as the home improvement project evolves. Each part of the work is itemized and our mark-up is shown in the document rather than folded invisibly into the line items.
That structure exists so the number survives contact with the build. An estimate you cannot audit is a number you have to take on trust, and trust is easier to give when the arithmetic is visible.
You are not committing to anything by having us out. Plenty of these visits end with a homeowner deciding to wait a year, and that is a legitimate outcome of a good consultation.
